Honest Work was created in a partnership between Parus Nischal, CEO of Nischal Sports Group (NSG) and Amani Davis, a resident physician at UPMC. Since July 2023, Parus and Amani have self-funded the exhibition of Black and Brown artists at NSG’s offices at 1001 Liberty Avenue. Our first shows have been an overwhelming success. Our uncompromising vision has been to offer our artists a chance at exhibiting work in a setting comparable (and competitive) to academic and commercial gallery spaces.

In 2024, we want to grow our efforts, and do more for the artists and their communities. The primary occasion for seeking funding from the Opportunity Fund is recognition that artists--and artists of color in particular--are frequently exploited and undervalued. Furthermore, people of color in particular are often implicitly or explicitly made to understand that we are not welcome in mainstream art spaces, and we intend to exhibit their works in even more high profile environments. We intend to create four further art exhibits, each with a different dimension that will showcase a variety of artists with different mediums. Each exhibit will aim to foster a community of art lovers from differing walks of life, and will ensure that no person feels out of place or intimidated to be in these spaces.

the story

To support the growth of emerging artists of color, and to lower access barriers for any individual — regardless of race, sex, gender — to experience art in their community.

our mission statement

We want our artists to feel empowered to enter any art space and we hope to engage with and promote the work of as many artists of color as possible.
